Iranians living in Athens, Greece, and other cities around the world took to the streets on Saturday to protest the death of Mahsa Amini, an Iranian woman, while in police custody.
The 22-year-old’s death has sparked protests across Iran where at least 41 people have been killed in the week-long unrest, according to Iranian state television.
In Athens, Iranian women cut their hair and set fire to a headscarf in solidarity with Amini, who was arrested for wearing “unsuitable attire.”
“I’m cutting my hair because many of my sisters in Iran are going to die, maybe tomorrow, because of (the) hijab,” one protester said.
In Washington, D.C. protesters called for regime change in the wake of Amini’s death.
